Eraser

(Charles Russell, USA, 1996)

Eraser, an Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle, is one of those very calculated films that seems to have been patched together from the highlights of half a dozen other action movies.

In particular, a lot of it reminded me of Brian De Palma's vastly superior Mission: Impossible (1996). Such as its plot line about corruption within a Government agency; such as its showcasing of technological gadgets; such as James Cann in a role that's quite similar to Jon Voight's.

Eraser definitely has some entertainment value. Overall, however, I found Schwarzenegger's part very bland, undynamic, at times laughable.

The film itself has a mechanical, pointless air.
