Zaldívar, Soliders Pay has gained
notoriety by being refused by Warner Brothers as an extra on the Three Kings (1999) DVD.
This
attention is deserved. This forty-minute piece is a tight, powerful compendium
of mainly eye-witness testimonies concerning the behaviour of American soldiers
in
Iraq.
The
net result of so many horror stories is complex: we come to grasp not only the
brutality of these men, but also the ways in which the process of war or
invasion brutalises them in turn.
