My Foolish Heart

(Mark Robson, USA, 1949)

My Foolish Heart is a downbeat gem of the 1940s, rediscovered by critics in the early '90s.

Adapted from a story by J.D. Salinger and directed by Mark Robson, it charts the sombre path of a wartime romance between Susan Hayward and Dana Andrews.

Like many romantic melodramas of the post-war period, the plot involves excruciating tangles of frustrated desire, moral responsibility and the everlasting consequences of reckless acts.
