D.C. Cab

(Joel Schumacher, USA, 1983)

There are those who refuse to see the greatness of this terrific, raucous, populist comedy starring yesterday's cultural icon, Mr T.

Writer-director Joel Schumacher (Flatliners [1990], The Lost Boys [1987]) – here nearing the end of his better days – once specialised in sprawling, episodic films about social groups.

The members of these groups play out their differences of race, age, class, sexual persuasion and personal style.

D.C. Cab's taxi-war plotline is scant, but it bursts with hilarious interactions and situations.

Gary Busey is unforgettable as a belligerent Elvis fan.
