If the situation of jaded city-boy journalist John Belushi embarking on a tentative, talky relationship with feisty mountain-woman ecologist Blair Brown in Lawrence Kasdan's script for Continental Divide reminds you a little of old Frank Capra movies (especially It Happened One Night, 1934), that is doubtless no accident. Like Broadcast News (1987), it is an attempt to update the romantic comedy formula of yesteryear. But the effort is not helped by the fussily detailed, typically realist direction of British Michael Apted.
